I fell in love with reading as a youth. Back then it was an escape from the boredom that plagued young people in the 1980s. Oh, how did we survive without the internet and social media platforms?!? Thankfully, the enjoyment I derived then remains with me today. Every night I follow along with a fictional plot or a real-life story that not only entertains my mind but also provides learning. Sometimes I learn small things, like new fancy words to try out in my vocabulary (thank you Siri for quickly finding word definitions for me). Sometimes I learn about another culture or perspective.

I also find great enjoyment in reading books that open my mind to personal and professional development. When I’m visiting my parents, my Dad will often ask me “Are you reading another one of those business books?”. His words. To me, they are books about life, about being human and learning to navigate an uncertain world.  Some relate to business leadership concepts, all relate to life.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you will go.”

–  Dr. Seuss

If you’re interested in learning about those that have been very helpful, please join me through the summer months. I will be sharing some well-read books that sit securely by my desk, along with a few key takeaways that have resonated with me. Many learnings have been incorporated into my everyday life, my coaching practice, and my corporate creations. They are sparks that ignite my fuel (otherwise known as my passion) which simply put is helping people be the best version of themselves.
